You’ve probably seen a shower niche before, though you may not have known at the time that it had a particular name. Perhaps it was at a friend’s house or in a hotel bathroom. Chances are you thought to yourself, ‘well that’s a handy feature!’
A shower niche is a recessed shelf located in the cavity of a shower wall. Sometimes they get called shower shelves, shower boxes, shower recesses or bathroom boxes. The shelf is finished and waterproof, perfect for storing shower items like shampoo, soap, body wash… or even the occasional glass of wine (no judgement for drinking in the shower here!).
What is a niche used for?
Niches are primarily used for storing things in a shower, however our customers have been known to use them in a variety of creative ways! We see beautiful niches installed above baths as feature pieces in the bathroom, in outdoor shower areas, steam rooms, saunas, or outdoor pool and spa areas.
You can also install LED lighting into a niche, providing a beautiful atmospheric glow to any bathroom or outdoor space.
Where can you get a shower niche from?

Tile Over niches come ready to be installed, and can then be tiled over once you’re at that stage. Builders and tilers love how easy these are to install and tile over, and a range of styles can be achieved by tiling over the standard Tile Over niche.

Glass Niche
Glass niches are made from the same durable lightweight polyurethane high density rigid panel that Tile Over niches are made from, making them 100% waterproof. However, they come pre-made with glass inserts of a Dulux colour of your choice, ready to be installed.
