How to clean a shower niche
If you’re reading this, you might be in the planning stage of a bathroom renovation or build, wondering what cleaning and maintenance a shower niche will require. Or perhaps you’ve successfully installed your shower niche and want to ensure it looks stunning for years to come.
You’ve come to the right place! Here’s everything you need to know about keeping your Niche Man shower niche sparkling clean.
General cleaning considerations
What detergent should I use?
Mild detergents should be used to clean a shower niche, as this will help protect the premium materials from wear and damage. We recommend avoiding abrasive or caustic cleaners, bleach, and scrubbing brushes or scourers.
How do I deal with stains and caked-on product?
We’ve all had to scrub at caked-on shampoo or soap in the shower. It’s not a fun job, and it can be even more difficult to remove within the tiny space of a shower niche. Apply some eucalyptus oil to a cloth and gently rub at the stain. This should safely remove more difficult grime and build-up in your shower niche without too much struggle.
Will my niche get mouldy?
Bathrooms are notorious for mould build-up. Whether your shower products are stored on the floor of your shower or in a shower caddy, they’re likely to have some mould build-up. The same goes for if they’re in your shower niche. Our top tip is to keep a soft cloth in your shower and wipe down the niche shelf every few days to discourage this inevitable mould build-up.
While some builders can be turned off by the potential for water and mould damage in shower niches, the good news is that this isn’t a problem in The Niche Man niches! Our prefab niche design keeps your shower niche 100% waterproof for life, so you won’t need to worry about damaging mould or leakage.
What’s the easiest way to clean my shower niche?
A detachable shower head is an excellent tool for keeping your shower and niche clean. If you don’t have one of these, a soft cloth can be kept in the shower niche or nearby to wipe the niche out every few days.
What if my niche isn’t in the shower?
Perhaps your Niche Man niche is positioned above a bath, next to a vanity, or not in the bathroom at all! The same cleaning instructions apply: use a soft cloth and a mild detergent when cleaning your niche. This technique will remove dust, dirt and mildew with ease – wherever your niche is in the house.
Cleaning a metal shower niche
Whether you’re installing a stunning copper satin niche, or a striking matte black, you’ll want to keep your Metallico shower niche from becoming damaged. Wiping it out regularly with a soft cloth and mild detergent will protect the premium metals from scratching or discolouring.
Here are some more tips for cleaning a metal niche:

- Apply a small amount of WD-40 to a dry cloth and wipe over the niche for a streak-free shine!
