Cleaning a Metal Shower Niche

Wiping your metal shower niche regularly with a soft cloth and mild detergent will protect the premium metals from scratching or discolouring.
Here are some more tips for cleaning a metal niche:

  • Wipe with the grain of the brushed metal
  • Use a dry microfiber cloth to dry excess moisture
  • Apply a small amount of WD-40 to a dry cloth and wipe over the niche for a streak-free shine.

Cleaning a Glass Shower Niche

A soft cloth and mild detergent should be used to clean glass niches or shelves in tile over niches. Avoid scourers or scrubbing brushes that may scratch the glass finish. Wipe your shower niche regularly to maintain a polished look.

Cleaning a Tile Over Shower Niche

A key issue with cleaning tiled niches is the potential for grout to become dirty. (Remember – smaller tiles mean more grout to scrub at!) However, tiles are generally quite hardy so you can use a stronger detergent on a standard tile-over niche. Ask your tiler for advice on whether your chosen bathroom tiles need any specific treatment.

What detergent should I use?

Mild detergents should be used to clean a shower niche, as this will help protect the premium materials from wear and damage. We recommend avoiding abrasive or caustic cleaners, bleach, and scrubbing brushes or scourers.

How do I deal with stains and caked-on product?

Apply some eucalyptus oil to a cloth and gently rub at the stain. This should safely remove more difficult grime and build-up in your shower niche without too much struggle.

Will my niche get mouldy?

Bathrooms are notorious for mould build-up. Whether your shower products are stored on your shower floor or in a shower caddy, they’re likely to have some mould build-up. The same goes for if they’re in your shower niche. Our top tip is to keep a soft cloth in your shower and wipe down the niche shelf every few days to discourage this inevitable mould build-up.

A detachable showerhead is an excellent tool for keeping your shower and niche clean. If you don’t have one of these, a soft cloth can be held in the shower niche or nearby to wipe the niche out every few days.

What if my niche isn’t in the shower?

Perhaps your niche is positioned above a bath, next to a vanity, or not in the bathroom at all! Again, the same cleaning instructions apply: use a soft cloth and a mild detergent when cleaning your niche. This technique will remove dust, dirt and mildew with ease – wherever your niche is in the house.
